Our Vision

Our vision as a church is to reach our local community and the Tampa Bay area by making disciples. There are several important areas we deem as important:

  • We will proclaim salvation in Christ alone, by grace alone.
  • We will be relevant to the culture.
  • We will accept people where they are and lead them to a deeper understanding and relationship with Christ. (A safe place for wounded people.)
  • We will focus on unchurched people.

A priority will be the addition of ministry staff. We are a church based on people, and Christ calls us to minister to people through the life of Hope Church and through missions, both local and abroad. God has blessed us with the addition of Jessica Moore as our administrative assistant and our Children’s Ministry Director (part time.) We have also been blessed with Rev. Tom Edwards and his family who joined our staff (Also part time) in May of 2004. Tom is responsible for our youth, college and assimilation ministries. He is a licensed counselor and therapist and heads our counseling and support ministries.

We don’t just see ourselves as a church, but a center of the community. Planned in three phases of development, we have a God-given vision of a facility that has athletic fields, a gymnasium, playground facilities and an auditorium that can be utilized by all the surrounding community. We want our center and surrounding fields to be used for neighborhood teams, homeowner association meetings, birthday parties, musical and theatrical productions, neighborhood concerts, gatherings, weddings, parties, and more!

Our Beliefs

Our Authority for Matters of Belief and Conduct

This statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of Hope Church Presbyterian’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, The Session of Hope Church Presbyterian as well as the Synod of the Associate Reform Presbyterian Church has the final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.

Our foundational doctrinal statements are found in The Standards of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, which we hold to be “the system of doctrine which is built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone” (Associate Reformed Synod, May 31, 1799).

Summary of Specific beliefs

We believe the Bible is the written word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts. The Bible is the revelation of God’s truth and is infallible and authoritative in all matters of faith and practice.

We believe in the Holy Trinity. There is one God, who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

We believe that all are sinners and totally unable to save themselves from God’s displeasure, except by His mercy.

We believe that salvation is by God alone as He sovereignly chooses those He will save. We believe His choice is based on His grace, not on any human individual merit, or foreseen faith. Therefore salvation is completely by God’s grace, freely given through faith.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who through His perfect life and sacrificial death atoned for the sins of all who will trust in Him, alone, for salvation.

We believe that God is gracious and faithful to His people not simply as individuals but as families in successive generations according to His Covenant promises.

We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells God’s people and gives them the strength and wisdom to trust Christ and follow Him.

We believe that Jesus will return, bodily and visibly, to judge all mankind and to receive His people to Himself.

We believe that all aspects of our lives are to be lived to the glory of God under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life. (Ps 139.)

We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Gen 1:26-27.) Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.

We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. (Gen 2:18-25.) We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. (1 Cor 6:18; 7:2-5; Heb 13:4.) We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.

We believe that God created and sanctioned marriage to bring together men and women, the complementary halves of humanity, by joining them in “one-flesh” unions. (Gen 2:18-25.) Marriage between one man and one woman for life uniquely reflects Christ’s relationship with His Church. (Eph 5:21-33.) Marriage also serves as the foundational unit of a stable society. (1 Cor 7:2.) It provides the best chance that children will grow up in the same home with both their mother and their father.

We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography) is sinful and offensive to God. (Matt 15:18-20; 1 Cor 6:9-10.)

We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of Hope Church Presbyterian as the local Body of Christ, and to provide a biblical role model to the Hope Church Presbyterian members and the community, it is imperative that all persons employed by Hope Church Presbyterian in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers, agree to and abide by this Statement on Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality. (Matt 5:16; Phil 2:14-16; 1 Thess 5:22.)

We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. (Acts 3:19-21; Rom 10:9-10; 1 Cor 6:9-11.)

We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31.) Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and Hope Church Presbyterian.

We Also Believe

God is the sovereign Creator and Ruler of the universe.

  • The Holy Spirit is the initiator and enabler for the Christian life.
  • The Ten Commandments are the summation of mankind’s responsibility to God and to one another.
  • Family Worship and Tithing are encouraged. Church Government is by the Presbyterian system.
  • The New Testament sets forth a pattern of leadership by Elders and Deacons. Each congregation elects these officers in a democratic manner.
  • The Sacrament of Baptism is administered to believers and their children.
  • Believers may join Hope Church Presbyterian by professing or reaffirming faith in Jesus Christ or by transfer of membership from another Christian Church.
  • Associate Membership is welcomed to part-time residents who are members in good standing of another Christian Church.

Therefore, we, the members of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, in order to carry out God’s mission and move forward together into the next century, profess our life together in Christ and our desire to set forth a united strategy for the work of His church. We express our desire to continue to be a Presbyterian and Reformed church committed to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and to the Bible as the Word of God.

Rooted in and shaped by a living tradition, we are part of the new creation in Christ which God is bringing into existence. Therefore, we are committed to:

  • The worship of the Triune God.
  • The Holy Scriptures as the basis for our faith and activity.
  • Unity with other believers in Christ.
  • Total stewardship of life, including tithing of time, talents, and money.
  • Excellence in education and equipping leaders for tomorrow.
  • Loving and caring for one another and for other people.
  • Spreading the Gospel to all parts of the world.
  • Evaluating and changing church structures and priorities in order to meet the challenges of the future while preserving the best of the past.

To this end and in humble reliance upon the enabling power of the Holy Spirit, we covenant together to pray steadfastly that God will open doors of opportunity so that we may declare the riches of Christ.

“Let us not grow weary in well-doing,
for in due season we shall reap,
if we do not lose heart” (Galatians 6:9)

Our Mission

Through our mission we build relationships with God, His Church and the Community. We exist to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and membership into His family, develop them to Christ-like maturity, and equip them for their ministry in the church and life mission in the world, in order to magnify God’s name.

Hope is a vision driven Church. We know what God has in store for us not only in eternity, but in this world! Our goal is to minister to the community through our building, not be a “Sunday and Wed. night” only place. We know that it will not be a facility only. The people are the Church!

Our worship service is a casual and lively all-age affair. We strive to communicate God's Word with creativity and relevance in a contemporary style. We want to create an environment where everyone draws closer to God. We use relevant, high impact messages, contemporary music, drama and other medium to present the message of God's unconditional love and forgiveness.

We cater to all ages. There's a nursery and "Hope-Filled Kids" Children's Church for pre-school through 5th grade. We also have an active Youth Group that meets at 5PM on Sunday evenings.

Our Small Groups invite you to make new friends, to give and receive hope from one another. These speciality groups begin regularly and are announced in the weekly program and can be found in our calendar. But if you have a particular aspect of your journey with God, Church and Community, that you want to focus on and a Small Group does not exist, we encourage you to start one!
